Sorry no pictures, just forgot. For Scott and Derwin it was a chance to operate on the layout again and for Taylor it was chance to visit the layout for the first time. Scott did his usual job at the Mill, while Derwin and Taylor did the North and South bound peddlers. I did the Mainline freights. We only able to get two out of three shifts done before they had to head home.

This session was a test session for me. I had set up my wifi system to allow all four of us to use smart phones as throttles, which is their normal throttles. This is the second time wifi throttles have been used on the WRS. The last time Scott was over, he setup his wifi system but we also had to use regular throttles because of some issues.
I was also testing a few changes to the Switch Lists, some worked and some need more adjustments.

I am not sure when the WRS will operate again, because the layout room will have to be used as a basement again for next few months.
The reason for the long period of shut down was because the basement had to be used as a basement again and not a railroad room. Most of the Railroad was blocked with "stuff".

This Session was more a test session then a regular Ops Session since the Railroad had not operated since January. As it turned out that was a good thing. First half of the UP5s would not work. So I had to run around like a chicken with its head cut off, looking for cables and female to female connectors so the Road Crews could reach a working UP5. The Crew at the Mill had to swap switchers and then clean the wheels three or four times during the Session. The Crews also found a number of errors on the Paperwork.

We were only able to get about two thirds of the Session before time ran out. Many thanks to the Crew of Dave & Barry R who worked the Mill, Glen who operated the Mainline Trains, Jamie and Pierre who did the Peddlers. The North Yard was pre-staged for this Session.

Just finished checking the UP5's, they are all working now after reseating the cables in the UP5s.
Adjustments have been made to the Paperworks to correct the issues. And I will have to clean the trackwork and locos before the next session.

That is it for now
We even had a new operator Michael.
The day started with Barry building trains in the North Yard.

Pierre and Michael picked up Train 202 in the South Yard and departed for points North. After clearing White River Board and Fibre, which was being switched by Jamie, they arrived at Greenfield for their pick ups and drop off at the Green Mountain Limestone. After picking up the three loaded 100 ton limestone covered hoppers and setting out the three empties. It was off to Dogwood. At Dogwood, they had to pick up the empty propane tank car at Atlantic Propane and the empty tank car at VGA. It was time to set these cars and the three from Greenfield on the Passing Siding for Train 101 and park the rest of the train on the lead for Atlantic Propane. Glen arrives at Dogwood with Train 101 to pickup the cars they had set out. After Glen departs for White River Board & Fibre, Pierre and Michael finish the switching job at Dogwood. They have to pick up a tank car at Q5 Industries and boxcar at Marc's Printing. Next they delivered a boxcar to Marc's, a tank car to Q5 and finally a loaded tank car to Atlantic Propane. Once the train was assembled, they departed for Roseton.
At Roseton they met Dave with Train 201. Once Train 201 departed, they picked up the five cars that Train 101 had left for rest of the run. In Roseton, they had to pickup and set out a flat car at R&C, and a boxcar at Ma's Noodles. The next stop was Whiskey Falls, where they had to pick up the empty covered hopper at A&D Plastics and leave a new load one. Their last pick up was a loaded Reefer at VGA Frozen Foods and leave an empty. Now it was time to call Barry for clearance to enter the North Yard. Once in the North Yard the power was cut from the train and they headed to the WRS office for their next orders.

Their next train was Train 203, heading South. After depart the North Yard, the first stop was Whiskey Falls to exchange two high side gons at E&C Recyling and a boxcar and tank car at A&C.
Next stop was Roseton, there Glen was holding with Train 102. After taking the siding, Glen departed and it was time to switch a boxcar at Northstar Bakery and a tank car at Corn Producers. Dave arrived with Train 204. Once Dave cleared the switch, they departed for Dogwood. At Dogwood, they had to switch at boxcar and all door car at DOW. Then it was off to White River Board & Fibre and then South Yard. The train was parked and the power was cut off.

Their last train of the day, was Train 206. They exchange three Limestone covered hoppers at Green Mountain Limestone in Greenfield, two bulk head flats at Reload in Dogwood. They have to set out the five cars they had picked up on the siding and placed their train on the lead for Atlantic Propane. Glen arrived with Train 103, picked up the cars they had setout and departed for White River Board & Fibre. They departed Dogwood for Roseton, where Dave was waiting with Train 205. Once Dave had departed for Dogwood, they switched two airsides at Ma's Noodles and then a boxcar at R&C's. They picked up the cars that Train 103 had left for them on the siding and departed for Whiskey Falls. At Whiskey Falls, they exchanged a tank car at Tank Services and covered hopper at A&D's. Their last pickup and setout was a reefer at VGA, and then to the North Yard. Once the train was parked and the engine was returned to Engine Terminal, Michael's first day was completed.
Since the last Ops Session a few industries have moved and one has disappeared and another has been added. Blue Circle Flour in Whiskey Falls has closed and the building was taken over by A&D Plastics formally of Roseton. Northstar Bakery moved from their old building in Roseton to A&D's old building. Ma's Noodles has opened in the old Northstar Bakery's building. Corn Producers and Tank Services exchanged locations, with Corn Producers now in Roseton and Tank Services now in Whiskey Falls.

Every one had a good time as usual.

Until next time
It was an interesting Ops Session. The Ops Plan is for five Operators plus myself, if I have only four coming, I can do my usual work and run the Mainline Trains. But this session with two operators having to withdraw, we were down to four including me. Normally I would have staged the Trains in the North Yard and operated the four jobs, Mainline, North Peddler, South Peddler and Mill Job. But with the withdraws happening just before the session, this was not an option.

Barry operated the North Yard as normal. Glen was in charge of the Mill Operations. I headed out with Train 101 and Pierre followed me with Train 201. After departing Roseton with Train 101, I parked it on the mainline, and headed to the South Yard for Train 202. This is when the "fun" began.

After arriving at Dogwood with Train 202, I did the first of the moves as Pierre was holding behind Train 101. Once I picked up the cars to be setout for Train 101 at Dogwood, I parked Train 202 and took over Train 101 to complete the run to the South Yard. Pierre followed behind with Train 201.
Once we arrived at the South Yard, I returned to Dogwood to finish the run of Train 202 and Pierre departed the South Yard with Train 204. It did not take long and Train 202 and Train 204 were both at Roseton switching. This continued until we both arrived at the North Yard. Pierre left with Train 203 and I went to the South yard to run MEC Transfer to the Mill. Glen was busy at the Mill all day. This was the first time Glen had operated the Mill since all the changes had happened.
Pierre finished Train 203 and then headed North with Train 206 and I departed the North Yard with Train 205 plus five cars from Train 103 for Train 206. Pierre ran the last train of the day, Train 103 to Dogwood and Mill.

It was a busy day, all the cars were delivered and I even did a some switching. We had fun.

Until next time
Sorry no pictures, yes I tried to take them but I must have had the camera on the wrong setting. The pictures were not clear.

During the summer there were a few change to the WRS, some physical with trackage changes and some were on the paper work side. So today was the first test of these changes. Barry headed to the North Yard to test out the new trackage and the revised operation of the Yard. The Hole in the Wall connection was used for the first time in a very long time. With one set out of cars coming thru the connection and two sets going out. This is something I will continue work with.

The other area with major change in the paper work was the Mill, which Pierre tested. There is more traffic inside the Mill and also more traffic coming and going.

Glen operated Train 101 departing the North Yard with stops for set outs and pickups at siding of Roseton, Dogwood and The Mill. Dave departed the South Yard with Train 202. This Train was revised this summer in dealing with Dogwood. The pick ups at Atlantic Propane, XYZ and VGA are done first and these cars and the one from Greenfield are set on the siding for Train 101 to pick up and continue South. After Train 101 departs Train 202 finish switching Q5 and Marc's Printing.

The last operator was a returning operator Bruce. Bruce took Train 201 and departed for Points South.

After the first shift Dave had to leave, so Glen took over Train 203 and I took over Train 102. This is a revised Train. It transfers cars from the South Yard to Hole in the Wall via the South Yard. Bruce return north with Train 204. The interest part of this part of the day, is the meet of Train 203 and Train 204. Today they both arrived at Roseton at the same time. Bruce assisted Glen with his work before starting his only once Glen left for Dogwood. During this shift there is also a new train or should a say an old train that has returned. MEC Transfer which runs from the South Yard to the Mill and returns to the South Yard.

For the last shift of the day, I had Train 103 from the North Yard, Bruce had Train 205 also from the North Yard and Glen had Train 206 from the South Yard. Again timing had Bruce and Glen meeting at Roseton again.

Everyone said they had a great time, but we did have electrical issues with the locos on the mainline. I am not sure if all four locos have shorts, the lights were flashing alot, or if I did not get the wheels clean and we had dirt pick ups, or the track was still dirt in spots or the locos need some run time. Or a combo of all of the above. Sometime I am going to have to look into. And we all know it is not going to happen again to the Crew walks down the stairs. There is also a few items in the new paperwork that needs to be adjusted, so people can understand what I want.

So until the next time

Did make the trip this month to Windsor to ride on the Trecothic Creek & Windsor Railway with my family. Did make few trips around the railway with my great nephew Colby.

Now back to the WRS, have done a little track work in the South Yard and at the Mill. The Yard tracks at the Mill were lengthen by roughly a car length. In the South Yard, two track were lengthen and two were shorten because of the switch movements.

There will be a few changes to paperwork. Train 102 will now be Yard to Yard transfer running earlier in the Schedule. The old Train 102 has been replace with the MEC Transfer, which will depart the South Yard for the Mill and then return from the Mill to the South Yard. This Train maybe also doing a little switching in the South Yard. Also there will be a small chance to Train 201 in dealing with Dogwood.

Traffic to and from the Mill has be increased. I am hoping to add about ten more cars.

That is it for now. I am not sure if the WRS will be operating in August at the present time.

The regular crew again was busy on the WRS. This session was the completion of the second session planned for the PEI Vistors. With a couple of regular engineers unable to attend, Barry worked the Mainline instead of the North Yard. The day started with Pierre heading for the Mill to do the Mill Job. Glen departed the North Yard with Train 101. Followed by Barry with Train 201. Dave departed the South Yard with Train 202. The Afternoon Shift started with me taking over Train 203 for Dave, who had to repart. Glen ran Train 102 and Barry departed with Train 204. The Evening Shift, had Glen operating Train 103, Barry had Train 205 and I had Train 206.

They arrived around 10 am. Three of the members who had not operated on the WRS were given a tour of the Railroad, while Scott set up their WI-Fi system so they could use their smart phones. But it turned out that only Scott's was able to use his phone. Mr Murphy likes causing problems on the WRS.

Scott head to the White River Board & Fibre to operate the Mill's switcher. Steve did the Mainline runs (Train 101, Train 102 and Train 103). Derwin did the switching duties at the North Yard. Ken and WRS Regular Glen started with Train 202 heading North. The final visiting operator Alistair departed the North Yard with Train 201.

The session continue with Alistair heading North with Train 204 as Ken and Glen Head South with Train 203. For the finial shift of the day, Ken and Glen head North with Train 206 and Alistair headed south with Train 205.

The session lasted about an hour longer then planned. Most of this was because of people not knowing the Railroad and also there where a few issues with the locos (electrical and couplers).

After the Session it was off to Lunch, where we were joined by WRS Regular Wayne.

After Lunch the PEI gang headed off to Pierre's and Maritime Hobbies before returning back to the WRS. During this time Wayne and I returned to the WRS to set up for the second session and Glen had to leave us for another appointment.

The original plan was to have the second Ops Session on the WRS, but everything took longer then planned, so there was a short discussion session before heading over to the Fall River and Eastern Railroad to a visit. After the FR&E visit, the crew headed home to PEI.

I would like to thank first the PEI Crew for making the trip, I hope you all enjoyed yourselves. And second Glen and Wayne for helping with the session.

For me it was interesting to see how another crew operated the WRS. There are a few things I have to look into as my regular crew has learn how to work around them.
Things started with Pierre and Glen backing up their S4 to pick up Train 202, that when they noticed the rear coupler was missing on the loco. So it was back to the South Yard Engine Terminal to pick up another S4. Since this unit had not been used in a while, issues began to raise its head. It was going to be one of those days.
Dave was working the White River Board & Fibre Mill. Barry was busy at the North Yard and Jamie picked up one of the new RS11 and headed South with Train 201. Wayne was at the controls of pair of the new RS11 on Train 101.
Once Pierre and Glen arrived at the North Yard, they traded in the S4 for the last of the RS11. As they when to connect to Train 203, the loco would not connect. After a few more tries, they ground crew noticed the coupler was upside down. Yes the day was continuing as it started. Jamie dropped off Train 201 and when to pick up Train 204. After starting away the cars where not following. Has he was backing up, he noticed his coupler had pulled out. The Maintenance Department will be having meetings.
Rest of the day when quietly, with Jamie doing Train 205, Glen and Pierre doing Train 206 and Wayne doing Train 103.

There are a few issues that will have to be addressed. The new RS11 have NCE decoders which will have to be adjusted since the Digitrax setting did not work correctly. Couplers will have to checked on all locos and a couple replaced. The Electrical Department is going to have to check the track work since there seemed to be allot of dead sections.
My plans was to have the regular crew do an Ops Session each month, but there was not one in March. Everything was ready for a mid March Session except to print out the paperwork and send the email.
Mid March is also March Break for the local schools. A phone call came and two of my great nephews were coming for a visit during March Break.
Tuesday morning arrived and my great nephews arrived for the Ops Session on the WRS. My oldest great nephew Riely had shown an interest in the paperwork last time he was visiting, so I had him started the Shift at the White River Fibre and Board Co. Connor the other great nephew go his loco and began running on the layout. Then Colby, my three year old great nephew asked where was his loco. So I got him one of the Blue S4 and a throttle and a couple cars. Under the watchfully eye of his grandfather, he was off running his first train. After his first trip, he was driving his train nice and slow, to slow for his older brother. Riely completed the work at the White River Fibre and Board Co and also ran Train 102. Connor and Colby ran trains from yard to yard with a few pick ups along the way.
I normally would have had an Ops Session the next weekend, but there was a second reason for my brother's visit. We looked a couple jobs that needed to be done around the house. One was chosen and I started working on getting ready for my brother to return the next week to work on the project.
The project is not complete yet, but hope to have an Ops Session for the Regular Crew before the end of April.
Here is a picture of couple additions to the WRS. First, two of the four newly arrived RS11 painted in the WRS colours (thanks Ric) and second, Pedigree Cement plant. The plant is from Pierre's layout, which he is dismantling. Also picked up a few other small pieces from his layout, which I hope will find a new home on the WRS.
Sorry no pictures, because of a Crew shortage, I was required to operate the 100 series trains and was not able to catch the Crew in action.

This was the second Ops Session with the revised Operating System. Today's session had a few adjustments to the Schedule from the first session, namely the three way meet in Roseton is gone . These adjustments improved the session, but there is an adjustment or two maybe still be needed.

Pierre operated the Switcher at the White River Board & Fibre Co. Barry W was back operating the North Yard. Dave with new brakeman Eric did one half of the Peddler Freights (202, 203 & 206) and Glen did the other half (201, 204 & 205). As I said before I got to run the Mainline Trains (101, 102 & 103).

The Crew enjoyed the running of the new longer trains, and also that they are now travelling the complete length of the WRS.

until next time

Just finished doing an Ops Session by myself. First time that I have done this in a long time. The reason for the session was to check the revised Switch Lists. Since the last Ops Session there has been a few changes to WRS and I wanted to check to see if the new Switch Lists had all the correct adjustments, and no they did not.

One of the biggest change happened in Roseton. A&D Plastics and Northstar Industries have changed locations. The siding for Tank Services ( formerly Reg's) has been lenghten and now services the relocated A&D Plastics. The old siding for Northstar Industries is now the siding for Tank Services, which will allow for a third tank car. Northstar Industries is now known as Northstar Bakeries. This change started about a month ago when I watch a series of videos that Chris Lyon had posted on his website (http://www.lyonvalleynorthern.blogspot.ca/2013/01/tips-and-hints-for-mr-operations.html). One of the videos talked about switching an industrial section of his layout. One of the industries was a Cookie Factory that received two tank cars with liquid sugar (first seed). A few days later I was on the Walther's site and up popped the Magic Pans Bakery, which I have the kit (second seed). Northstar Bakeries will allow the use of a few cars (airslides and tank cars) that were not being used at present.

The other major change to the Switch List is because of the new Schedule. With eight hours between the first shift and the third, I began to look at the industries, to see which industries could receive more shipments daily and could they unload or load a car in eight hour period. So a few of the industries are receiving service in both the first and third shifts. The industries include, Green Mountain Limestone (bulk limestone cars), Blue Circle Flour (grain car), and T&T Warehousing (box car).

Now it is time to began staging the railroad for the next Ops Session.

thanks
WRS Management

Doug Whitmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06911048619137529233noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-946557564900482991.post-49354054116505900262013-01-14T12:29:00.000-04:002013-01-14T12:49:26.628-04:00Ops Session Jan 13thAfter eight months the Crew of the WRS gathered to operate on the WRS. A few things have changed since the last operating session, so the session started with a discussion of these changes. The biggest for the crews was the replacement of the Dogwood and Roseton Switcher Jobs with a series of North and South bound Peddler freights. With the large turnout of Crew for the session, most trains operated with two person crews.

As with any new operating orders there are problems. First the meet of the North and South Peddler Freights with the Main line Freight at Roseton did not work has planned. Management is reviewing what happened and after a new Schedule Manager is hired, a new Schedule will be developed. The Freight Agent is busy reviewing all the errors which appeared with the Train's paperwork. He was overheard telling one of the Crews, "to drop off what two cars you do not have paperwork for in your train" at one of the clients.

The Crews did a great job of working with the new system. Management hope to have things corrected for the next session.

The Maintenance Department of WRS will also be busy between operating sessions dealing with all the little items that come with not operating a railroad for eight months. Why does everything work until the Crews arrive.
The White River Paper Co. is now known as White River Board & Fibre Co. This change all started last June when I attended a clinic presented by Steve Mc about operations on his railway Carleton Railway http://carletonrailway.blogspot.com/ . Part of the clinic was on the research he did for each of the industries on the railway. My original plan for the Mill was to convert recylced paper into paper towels. During my research I found out the largest use of recylced paper is to produce cardboard. This is the first change in the Plant, during my research I found a paper on the chemicals required to produce different types of cardboard. To produce a printable outer layer for cardboard, will require #2 coating clay and calcium carbonate, which are both shipped by 40ft tank cars that I have had to retire in the original plan. The other chemicals are shipped in box cars, 30ft tank cars, and covered hoppers. The Board Mill has at present has two 250 tons per day board machines, one machine produces the outer printable layer of the cardboard and the second machine produces the inner layer of the cardboard. The middle layer is produced at another mill. These layers are rolled on tubes to produce large rolls which are shipped out to a plant to produce the cardboard for boxes.

A few of the tracks at the Mill now have different uses. The second track in the Receiving Warehouse is now for boxcars carrying chemicals in boxes or drums. The liquid chemical track does not change. The old Airslide Track is now for Airslides and covered hoppers. The old covered hopper track is now the Board Mill Shipping Warehouse.

The other mill, which housed the old shipping warehouse, is now the Fibre Mill. This mill is based on a mill that I worked at when I was going to University. One of the products of the mill is egg cartons, you know the ones you get with a dozen eggs. Other products in the family include berry boxes, plates you get your pizza slice on, the holder to carry your drinks at the fast food restaurant, the tray to hold fruit in shipping boxes, just to name a few products.

The annex on the Mill has been removed and this track will be used to hold empty boxcars before going to the Fibre Mill and Bunker "C" unloading. Because of the temperature requirements of the drying ovens, steam from the Boiler Plant can not be used, a Bunker "C" boiler has been installed to meet the requirements of the drying ovens.

The three outside tank unload spots on the old arrangement have be removed at present.
The overall traffic at the two Mills will be down a few cars for now with these changes.

until next time
Cleaned up the layout a little so I could take a few pictures.

The first two are of Whiskey Falls, which replaces the old Bartown section. There are now six industries in Whiskey Falls, Inland Cement, Team Track, Blue Circle Flour, Tank Unloading, A&C and W&S.

This is the Farm Scene, which was the last UMG module that I built. My plan as stated in the last post, was to install this module between Leo's Feed and R&C in Roseton, but things changed. My plan was to increase the distances between the towns of Dogwood and Roseton and convert the old Bartown area to a rural scene with a couple small industries. Then I used the old center section of Bartown to bridge the gap in the layout, a major town appeared instead of the rural scene. So the module was moved again and place between Whiskey Falls and Roseton. Ok I prefer "Ops".
The new "Ops" paper work is almost finished. Need to run a few tests. Also all the Train Orders and Schedules will have to be adjusted. Ok completely revised.
I am not sure if this is the final arrangement, but I wanted to get the WRS rolling again, so I reworked some of the bench work that I had removed. The other major change in the landscape happened at the other end of Roseton. One of my old UMG modules was put back in service and added between Leo's Feed and R&C Transfer. This required the removal of Inland Cement. The module is just a place holder until I start the river scene.

Now it is time to start the clean up process and to finish a couple little item to complete this phase of the project. Which may not happen until next week, since this week will be spend getting ready for the Dartmouth Train Show.

Pictures will follow once all the "junk" has been removed from the layout.
Where has time gone.

Construction on the WRS did not happen this summer as planned. Still looking at options on dealing with the issues that came up with the removal of the bar. Time to make a choice and move on with it.

The Railroad did operate once this summer, received a call that two most senior members of the Board of Director (my Great Nephews) were coming the next day to operate. So the next 24 hours was spend getting the Railroad ready for them. Trains operated from the South Yard to Whiskey Falls. Which is now the end of the line until the section from Whiskey Falls to Riverside is replaced.
Most of the session was flats moving construction equipment to different locations on the railroad. The interesting thing that came out of this session, was they found some 20 ft containers that were in storage and place them around the railroad as buildings, some of these will be staying.

Most of the summer railroading time was spend on the On30, with weekly construction nights. A total of six new modules were added to the group. Also did a little work/repairs on Wayne's and mine modules.

Last Sunday, I attended the MFMR Clinic day in Truro. The four clinics were great and I did learn a few things.

Now with the Truro Show less then a week away, it is time to get the On30 stuff packed for the show.

I am hoping that after the Truro Show, I will be able to get back to work on the WRS.

until next time

DougDoug Whitmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06911048619137529233noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-946557564900482991.post-60469533209009577042012-07-07T11:56:00.002-03:002012-07-07T11:56:42.792-03:00UpdateTime for a little update of what is happening on the WRS.

This morning, a train moved on the WRS, completing a run it started a month ago.

With a roughly twenty foot hole in then layout, The Electric Department of the WRS moved the Command Centre to the South Yard from Whiskey Falls. They also upgrade the main bus line for the Paper Mill and Dogwood. Dogwood needed it, Dogwood is series of old UMG modules with plugs ever four feet. A couple of the modules had smaller then normal wire gauge on the main bus. One of the modules had the two wires in reverse order because of the way the module was installed into the setup. It took the Electrical Department some time to find this and correct it.

The Bar is gone, there are four or five lumber piles, that will have to sorted. Some of the lumber will be reused on the layout, some on other projects and some will find it way to the wood stove.

On the Other Project, research on industries is continuing. The Paper Mill be not be a Paper Mill. It will now produces two different products from recycled paper and cardboard. More on this later in another post. Also looking at what industry that will be replaced and what industries that will be taking their place.

later
There is a second project this summer. A couple year's ago I moved the Paper Mill by adding a balloon between Dogwood and Paper Mill, this area is now know as Greenfield, home of Green Mountain Limestone. As you can see in the picture below there was not much room between Greenfield on the right and Bartown on the right. Maybe two and a half feet at the most. If someone was working Bartown, which did not happen on a regular basis, and if someone needed to get by, he had to stop and move to where Dave is standing.

As of today, the Bar, which came with the house, is gone. And there is a major hole in the railroad as the Bartown secton was also removed.

After I finish cleaning up the "mess" from removing the Bar. I will look at how the railroad is going to run thru the "new" space. I want to have at least three feet if not four feet between the bench work.

The first item is to develop a history of the railroad and why certain things are done the way they are. Some of the history is in my head, which now going to be writen down this summer. Some will take time to develop, like why WRS is still using cabooses.

Next major item is to list what each industry on the Railroad is, what they produce and what is received and what is shipped. For some industries this is easy, others are just building with names on them. More time will be spend doing research.

The second half of this is to list where (Company name and location) and how (which railroads) the item being shipped to or received from. This will happen later, since at present this info is not on the paperwork the crew is handed. Steve uses car cards and the WRS uses switch lists. I am not sure there is room for this info, specially now that type of car has been added to the switch list. I do not think the crews would like it if I when to an 8 font.

Steve also discussed developing a time table for the layout. A form of this will now be required, since of another change that is happening on the WRS. In the Fall, there will be a new operations plan. The local switchers at Dogwood, Roseton and Riverside, are going to replace. There now will be three North bound and three South bound Peddler Freights, which will service these area. This was done to get regular service to Riverside & Bartown. There will be two or three Main Line Freights, running between the Yards and serving the Mill. They may also be doing drop offs and pick ups at sidings on route. Since at present there is only one siding that will allow meets, which is the newly extended siding in Roseton.

It is going to be a busy summer.
I had nine people visit the WRS and six even operated.

First, I would like to thank Scott, Derwin and Ewen from PEI for helping with hosting the event. This was Ewen first visit to the WRS. I believe during the day he was able to do all the jobs on the mainline. Derwin was in charge of the North Yard Operations and did get out on the layout when he was not busy. Scott did the South Yard once he had the Wi-Fi working so he could use his I-phone as a throttle.
The next operators to arrive were Ronald from Campbellton, NB ( http://www.chaleurrail.com/) and Jean-Luc from Quebec. After the tour and a few questions about the WRS, they headed out with the train for the White River Paper Mill.

It was an interesting day, we had three new operators, (Ronald, Jean-Luc and Ewen) and also learned a few things with the questions that were asked. A few items have already been added. A few will take time for them to happen. We also had a few people who just came to look at the railroad.

I made a small mistake on my paperwork that I handed out and some people believed it was going to be a complete operating session lasting 4 hours, which they did not have time to attend because of distance they had to travel to return home and not just a series of small Local Runs, which you could do one to more.

Steve Mc also did a clinic on Saturday on Operations, more on the fallout from this clinic on the WRS in a upcoming post.

I have made a change from the normal WRS Ops to back when the WRS began to operating sessions. Each Area will be serviced by a Local Train. At present I have 4 trains staged for the Mill and 4 trains staged for Riverside / Bartown in the North Yard, and 5 for Dogwood / Greenfield and 5 for Roseton / Whiskey Falls in the South Yard. Also working on the paper work for more trains, which will require a switcher(s) to work the North and/or South Yards.

If you need instructions to find the WRS, see me at the NBR&N On30 layout at the Show.

Now back to list of things I have to get done by Friday.

For more info see http://halifaxmodeltrains.ca/

My orginal plan was to host an Ops Session on the WRS on Friday night for people who are from out of town, but a few things have came up. The control system used on the WRS is also used on the NBR&N On30 layout. My plan was to use a Zephyr to set up the layout on Friday Night and then install my Chief system on Saturday morning but with the issues at Shearwater, I had to dig my Booster out of hiding to provide more power to operate all those sound units. So I am going to need more time then just an hour on Saturday morning to set up for the first time on NBR&N Layout, you know what happens when you pushes one's luck.

The WRS will be open on Sunday for visitors, who wish to stop in and see the Railroad. I will have a few trains staged so you can do a little switching on the layout. I will be running the trains as Locals instead of Main Line trains with Switchers doing the local work. You will have the Choice of following jobs to pick from: Paper Mill, Dogwood/Greenfield, Roseton/Whiskey Falls and Riverside/Bartown.

For anyone does not know where WRS is located, see me at the Convention and I will give you directions.

At present the WRS will not appear on the Convention Layout Tour List.

Hope to see you all at the Convention.
