June 1 Operating Session

WRS was busy moving freight again, well almost busy. With only one crew making the Crew Call, Pierre and Glen had their pick of jobs. Pierre headed for the Mill to do the Mill Job and Glen fired up the C424s to take the Mill Run from the Yard to Mill. With sixteen cars in tow, Glen departed the Yard. After arriving at Junction, Ridge Run Switcher, operated by me, removed the last four cars in Glen's train. Once the caboose was added back on the train. Glen departed for the Mill. In the mean time Pierre was busy switching the Receiving and Shipping warehouses. After Glen arrived with the Mill Run, they continued switching the cars at the Mill. After picking up the last outbound car, Glen departed with the C424s for Junction to pick up the cars set out by the Ridge Switcher and then off to the Yard. Pierre finished delivering the last car on his list.

Once Glen returned to the Yard, he picked up the RS11 and the train for the Bar Run. They departed for Riverside and Bartown to deliver their cars. Once they finished their work and returned to the Yard, it was time to call it a day.

We had a small crew on the BS&T last Sunday as well. I'll call it the "Summer Crew". Summer is always a rough time on a railroad with crew members taking vacations or just not showing up for work. As railroad owners we have to anticipate that and make allowances.

We actually get the same amount of work done in about the same amount of time. There's just a little less downtime while one crew waits for another crew to finish their work.

Yes, part of it the Summer coming. Had one member get sick, another had a family commitment. And it was short notice on the Operating session, since I was not going to operate until this coming Monday.

I am looking at making some changes to the Operations on the WRS over the Summer, which may help the issues.

You had a good reason. See you next time.

Scott was just pointing out that somedays, you just have to learn to operate with smaller crews.
