After many complaints from customers in Bartown and Riverside about not receiving regular daily service over the last month, the White River Southern management hired a consultant to review the issues and report back to management.
The consultant presented their report this week. The highlights were, that the present assignment of crews ot the WRS, have left Management short at times and the service to Bartown and Riverside were dropped at these times. The consultant have presented a re-arrangement of crews as follows.
The Mill Run will drop its service to Dogwood and now will take over the switching duties at the Mill.
Dogwood will now be serviced by the Dog Run, which will also service the Bartown and Riverside area on route to and from Dogwood.
The Junction / Blue Ridge Turn will now be combined into the Roseton Local to become the Ridge Run.
Management is hoping these changes will improve service to all customers, specially those in the Bartown and Riverside area.

I find it harder to deal with complaints from the crew members than from the customers! Trying to find the best operating plan is one of the fun challenges of owning a layout!

So true.
The old plan required seven operators. Which was not a problem when I made the last addition to the railroad. But now I am faced with the lost of up to four of my regular operator for the next few months. Also some of my operators would prefer to be a brakeman instead of an engineer. Switching is not for everone. So I am going to try this arrangement.

Were all of the recommendations made by the consultants incorporated into the new plan? All to often management only picks and chooses items from a report that it thinks can be adopted without extra cost. Real service improvements frequently get left by the wayside due to perceived cost increases. ;^)
My suggestion is to keep your options options open and work up a plan that could be split into more jobs if more crew members show up than expected.

Not all of the report was released by Management. The second reason for the changes was the lease on a few of the locos used on the WRS were do. Two locos have been returned and the lease on two more C424 which were going to added to the fleet was cancelled. Also one of the RS3 are in the shop for work. It always happen, when you ship out power that an unit remaining will fail.
If we get back to full crews again, management will adjust the crew arrangement again.
